Book Summary: According to the author, the causes of anti-semitism are two-fold: 1) Christian philosophy is at its essence anti-jewish and antisemitic. Anti-semitism springs from the writings of Paul and the writers of the Gospels. These invented works canonize anti-jewish sentiments such as the diecide of Jesus by the Jews. The seeds of anti-Semitism were sown by the antagonism of early Christian leaders toward Jews and the Jewish religion. A famous example is John “Chrysostom” (Golden-Mouth), Archbishop of Constantinople (ca. ), whose stirring sermons moved many listeners.

Yet both Christianity and Islam cannot entirely deny that their doctrines are based on Judaism. Religious pundits have claimed that the doctrine of anti-Semitism is a feature of the Enlightenment. Now, years later, what Hitler failed to do, others wish to complete.   The individual probably most responsible for laying the ground work for Christian anti-Semitism is one of the Church fathers, Origen. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he lived from A.D. – ca. Expelled from Alexandria in A.D. , he moved to the area of Caesarea, capital of the Roman province of Palestine, where he would die.

‘POSSIBLY,’ WROTE THE THEOLOGIAN, Rosemary Ruether, ‘anti-Judaism is too deeply embedded in the foundations of Christianity to be rooted out entirely without destroying the whole structure.’ It is partly because its implications are so terrifying that we have sometimes been reluctant to face up to the history of anti-semitism. The real question is not whether individual Christians have been anti-Semites, but whether anti-Semitism is somehow ingrained in the very roots of Christianity, in its very essence.

Rosemary Ruether has declared that anti-Semitism is the other side of Christology, the inevitable fallout of placing Jesus at the right hand of the : Paperback. Antisemitism and the foundations of Christianity.

Even more disturbing was the fact that the Christian Messiah hailed from the House of David. As I show in my book, the Federal Council of Churches tackled the problem of anti-Semitism in the early s with the expressed goal of ending “racial antipathies” and creating a new. The issue of anti-semitism and how the people of the Jewish religion were treated during World War Two, was probably one of the biggest issues of social injustice in the world’s history.

“The Book Thief” explains this injustice in a new found perspective. This teacher manual is based on Dr. Paul Caram’s book Foundations of the Faith. In his study of the doctrines of the Bible, Dr. Caram will explore the main doctrines upon which the Christian church is founded, giving us keys to recognizing right doctrine and how we can be transformed to be “living epistles,” having the law of God written.

Introduction. The topic of anti-Semitism (or anti-Judaism) in the New Testament is an area of significant debate. Since most of the first generation of Christians (c. 30–60 CE) were Jews who came to believe that Jesus was the messiah, and a dying/rising messiah at that, what does it mean to call Christian Jews (or Jewish Christians) anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish?.
